According to data from Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, China’s automobile exports reached 5.31 million units in the first half of 2026, a 53% increase from the same period in 2025. June alone saw exports of 1.07 million units, up 73% year-on-year and 8% month-on-month, setting a new global record for single-country monthly auto exports.
Drivers of Export Growth
The main drivers of this year’s export growth include the enhanced competitiveness of Chinese products in a high-oil-price environment and technological leadership in the new energy transition. Chinese automobiles have formed global competitiveness in cost-effectiveness, intelligent configuration, and new energy technology.
Regional Market Landscape
An analysis of regional sales reveals a striking contrast: the European Union market, which has received significant attention, did not rank among the top three overseas markets for Chinese automakers. Instead, emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa have become the primary growth drivers for Chinese auto exports.
Leading Automakers’ Overseas Achievements
Yiche, jointly with China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), released the China Auto Going Global: H1 2026 Review Report, systematically reviewing the global passenger vehicle market landscape and the comprehensive development of China’s automotive globalization. BYD, Chery, Geely, and other leading automakers have made significant progress in overseas plant construction, brand building, and channel expansion.
Full-Year Outlook
With cumulative exports exceeding 4.05 million units in the first half, reaching the 10-million-unit target for the full year has become a near certainty. China is accelerating its transformation from a large automotive country to a strong automotive power.
