Automotive Chip Industry 2026: National Certification Standards Officially Launched

The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has officially released five automotive chip certification and accreditation industry standards, including the General Evaluation Requirements for Automotive Chip Institution Certification Review. This standards system fills the global gap in national-level capability evaluation rules for the entire automotive chip industry chain.

Core Content of Five Standards

The five certification and accreditation industry standards were officially released on August 17, marking the world’s first national-level capability evaluation standards system for the entire automotive chip industry chain. This signifies that China’s automotive chip industry has taken a key step in quality assurance system construction.

Unifying the measurement standard is the core value of these standards — from design and manufacturing to packaging and testing, the entire automotive chip chain now has national-level evaluation rules.

New Industry Upcycle

The severe chip shortage of 2022 is still fresh in memory, and within just two years, the industry entered a deep downturn. Coming to the second half of 2026, signals of an industry turning point continue to emerge. Overseas leading semiconductor manufacturers’ financial reports generally show recovery, supply chain inventories have returned to healthy levels, and Tier 1 component supplier orders are steadily improving.

Combined with AI computing power continuously absorbing 8-inch mature process capacity, and the surge in chip demand from 800V high-voltage platforms and advanced intelligent driving models, the automotive chip industry has launched a new upward cycle.

Accelerating Domestic Substitution

The standards’ implementation will accelerate the process of domestic automotive chip substitution. Currently, domestic companies have made breakthroughs in MCUs, power devices, and sensors, but significant gaps remain in high-end SoCs and memory chips.
