FAW-Volkswagen Announces Recall of Audi Models in China Due to Safety Belt and Software Issues

On January 7, FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. filed official recall plans with the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) of China in accordance with the Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and related implementation measures.

The recall involves imported Audi models as well as domestically produced Audi vehicles, addressing potential safety risks related to seat belt components and brake control software.

FAW-Volkswagen recall

Recall Scope and Affected Vehicles

Recall No. S2025M0205V (Effective Immediately)

FAW-Volkswagen will recall 81 imported vehicles manufactured between March 19, 2025, and July 30, 2025, including the following models:

  • Audi A6 allroad

  • Audi A7

  • Audi Q8

Recall No. S2025M0206V (Effective January 23, 2026)

A total of 24,613 domestically produced Audi Q4 models, manufactured between March 30, 2022, and June 13, 2024, will be recalled under this plan.

Reasons for the Recall

Seat Belt Lock Buckle Defect (Imported Models)

Due to a manufacturing issue, some vehicles within the recall range may be missing a fastening component inside the front seat belt buckle. In the event of a collision, the buckle may detach from its fixed point, preventing the seat belt from providing effective occupant restraint. This defect increases the risk of passenger injury and poses a safety hazard.

Brake Control Software Issue (Audi Q4)

Affected Audi Q4 vehicles may experience a software defect in the brake control unit. If the driver depresses the brake pedal again within one second after the vehicle receives a power-off signal and the parking brake is engaged, the system may:

  • Release the parking brake

  • Automatically shift the transmission into Neutral (N)

  • Fail to display the N gear status on the instrument cluster

This scenario increases the risk of unexpected vehicle rolling, does not comply with relevant national safety standards, and presents a potential safety risk.

Corrective Measures

For Imported Audi Models

FAW-Volkswagen will authorize Audi-certified dealerships to replace the front seat belt lock buckles with optimized components free of charge, eliminating the safety risk.

For Audi Q4 Models

Authorized Audi dealers will provide a free software update for the brake control unit, ensuring proper system logic and eliminating the potential hazard.

Owner Notification and Safety Commitment

FAW-Volkswagen will notify affected vehicle owners through official channels. Owners are advised to contact local Audi authorized dealerships to schedule recall repairs as soon as possible.

This recall reflects FAW-Volkswagen’s continued commitment to vehicle safety, regulatory compliance, and consumer protection in the Chinese market.
