On December 26, SAIC Motor’s MG (Morris Garages) brand officially confirmed that the 2026 MG7, a mid-size sedan positioned as a sporty fastback, will make its market debut on January 6. As a model-year update, the new MG7 focuses on intelligent technology upgrades, most notably the introduction of NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) advanced driver assistance and an AI-powered voice large language model, significantly enhancing driving convenience and in-car interaction.
For reference, the current MG7 lineup includes six variants, priced between RMB 125,900 and RMB 178,900, positioning the MG7 as a competitively priced performance-oriented sedan.
Sporty Fastback Design Continues
While official images of the 2026 MG7 have not yet been released, SAIC MG has indicated that the new model will retain the core design language of the outgoing version. The MG7 continues to adopt a sleek fastback silhouette, with the roofline beginning to slope downward from the end of the A-pillar and flowing smoothly into the rear, creating a coupe-inspired profile.
A distinctive “leaping leopard” shoulder line gives the car a strong sense of muscularity, while frameless doors further emphasize its premium and sporty character—features rarely seen in this price segment.
Dynamic Side Profile and Performance-Inspired Rear Styling
From the side, the MG7 features a dual waistline design, where the rear character line visually widens the rear fenders, reinforcing its wide-body stance. The upward-sweeping lower body crease along the doors adds tension to the overall shape, giving the sedan a poised, ready-to-launch appearance.
At the rear, the MG7 stands out with quad exhaust outlets featuring manually adjustable exhaust valves, allowing drivers to balance sound and refinement. An adaptive three-stage electric rear spoiler is seamlessly integrated into the liftback tailgate, working alongside a subtle ducktail to optimize aerodynamic performance across different speeds.
NGP Advanced Driver Assistance and AI Voice Model
A major highlight of the 2026 MG7 is the introduction of NGP advanced intelligent driving assistance. The system is built on 23 perception sensors and SAIC’s in-house driver assistance algorithms, enabling 22 advanced ADAS functions, including:
-
ISC intelligent cruise system
-
ALC automatic lane change assistance
-
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
-
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
These features significantly reduce driving workload during daily commuting and highway travel.
In addition, the MG7 will be equipped with an AI voice large language model, delivering more natural speech recognition, faster response times, and smarter contextual understanding, further enhancing the overall user experience.
2.0T Powertrain with Advanced Chassis Technology
Under the hood, the 2026 MG7 continues to use a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, producing 261 horsepower (192 kW) and 405 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a 9-speed automatic transmission, offering smooth gear changes and strong mid-range acceleration.
To enhance driving dynamics, the MG7 is equipped with mCDC intelligent adjustable electronic suspension and an E-LSD electronic limited-slip differential, ensuring improved stability, traction, and cornering performance across varying road conditions.
Market Position and Outlook
By combining performance-oriented hardware with intelligent driving and AI technology, the 2026 MG7 aims to deliver a rare blend of sportiness and smart features in the mid-size sedan segment. With its official launch approaching on January 6, more details regarding pricing and configuration are expected to be announced soon.
